Where Your Support Goes

When you donate to Anglicare, your donation helps people like Lisa.

She came in to The Magdalene Centre for emergency relief. She just asked for some bread to get her through — she was on a disability pension and battling drug problems and an abusive partner.

While she was at The Magdalene Centre, she saw a poster advertising free community cooking classes.

She had washed up years ago and liked the kitchen atmosphere. She asked about the classes and staff said she would be very welcome.

Lisa enjoyed the friendly group, and started to regain her confidence. Some months later, she got up the courage to enrol in a TAFE course.

Four years down the track, Lisa continues her study and combines this with work, three days per week. She is living happily, independently — and has even come back to The Magdalene Centre to run a course for us.

Staff member Jill Rivers talks about the value of the groups which spin out from the emergency relief centre.

“Just getting together in a group to socialise helps ease people’s isolation, and feelings of being on the fringes.
“We helped Lisa identify her skills – and she has really flown. It started with our bread, but ironically, it’s Lisa who has taught us so much.”

Much of Anglicare’s income comes from state and federal government funding.

But some of our programs run short.

Emergency relief, for example, costs Anglicare $1 million over what we receive in government funding, simply because of demand.

Funds raised in donations allow us to go the extra mile — to seed new projects and expand existing services.

Regular pledges are particularly helpful, as they allow us to budget into the future.

Anglicare keeps its overall administration costs as low as possible — around eight per cent.

When you donate to Anglicare, you are giving hope to people in our own back yard.

Thank you.
