KidsAreFirst

KidsAreFirst offers a comprehensive and intensive approach to working with separated parents in high conflict, their children (5-17 years) and/or extended family members.

Services include intake and assessment interview, group work, counselling, case management and family dispute resolution (mediation).

KidsAreFirst offers the Parenting Orders Program (for parents), Banana Splitz for children 5-12 years old and MAD (Making a Difference) for young people 13-17.

KidsAreFirst is a state wide service. Groups are currently being run at Hindmarsh, Elizabeth and Morphett Vale.
Regional groups are also negotiable.

The Parenting Orders Program

Aims to build communications, reduce conflict and court action and achieve co-operative parenting that is in the best interests of the children.

Our services are for parents

• Who are experiencing communication difficulties in co-parenting
• In conflict over child related issues
• At risk of parenting plans or orders breaking down
• Who are breaching parenting orders
• Who are not ready for family dispute resolution
• In situations where family dispute resolution has not been successful.

Expected outcomes

For Parents

• Improved communication between parents regarding shared parenting of their children.
• Improved parental ability to jointly problem-solve issues related to their children.
• More effective self-management of shared parenting.
• Reduced court action.
• Improved family relationships.
• Increased knowledge about family dispute resolution.
• Development and implementation of workable, individualised and mutually agreed upon parenting plans.

How to register for the KidsAreFirst- Parents Program

• You can be referred to KidsAreFirst, or you can refer yourself
• To register for KidsAreFirst, parents meet with a case manager at an intake and assessment interview in order to identify issues and to know how the program can meet these needs.
• To register for the children’s program a case manager will meet with the child and parent(s) at an intake interview to identify the child’s experiences and discuss the group program.

KidsAreFirst provides:

• A confidential service
• Metropolitan and state-wide service coverage
• Highly trained staff, specialising in group work, children's work and family dispute resolution
• Educational and skill building program for groups of parents, children and adolescents
• Certificate of Participation/Attendance to participants who attend and participate in all group work sessions
• Child focused and child inclusive family dispute resolution
• Information and links to other support services, as needed

Fees

Fees are $30 per adult for the full program. There is a concession for card holders.
Our low fees are inclusive of all services offered as part of the group program. Please call us for more information about individual counselling.
