Anglicare is encouraging everyone — staff and the community — to join us in speaking up on key issues that affect the people that Anglicare serves.

CONSTITUTIONAL RECOGNITION OF ABORIGINAL AUSTRALIANS

COUNT ME IN! NOW IS THE TIME FOR ACTION!

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are currently excluded from the Australian Constitution. Constitutional recognition of Aboriginal Australians is on the political agenda. Supporting constitutional recognition of Aboriginal people is another step towards advancing Australia’s Reconciliation Agenda.

To change the Constitution, the majority of voters in a majority of States/Territories plus a majority nation-wide need to vote in favour of constitutional change.

What is Anglicare doing?

Anglicare speaks up on key important issues – such as housing, poverty and community inclusion – on behalf of key groups including:

  • Children
  • Older people
  • People living with disability or mental illness
  • Young people
  • Aboriginal people
  • Cultural diversity and
  • People on low income

Why advocacy?

We want to get to the source of the problem and change the structures of injustice that stop people getting the help they need, when they need it. We do this through influencing decision makers to change policy or programs in favour of those that Anglicare serves.

Advocacy, through public campaigning and raising community awareness, can assist in changing community attitudes and create public support for issues and campaigns.

We can speak with credibility by using our own stories of hope.

Our advocacy campaigns
